Apprenticeships (Construction)

Initially, if you do not have an employer, you will attend a Level 1 Pre-Apprenticeship Programme at Future Skills Sandwell for a minimum of 13 weeks, during which time you will complete short courses related to health and safety and spend time in the trade area learning basic skills in readiness for entering employment. Once employed you will begin work towards the full Apprenticeship framework.

To achieve the full Apprenticeship you will complete the following:

Workers at construction site

  • NVQ Level 2
  • Diploma
  • Functional Skills/Key Skills

Training is undertaken both at the centre and on-site. You will attend the centre on a block release basis, the rest of the time will be spent with your employer to gain the necessary site experience.

The programme is mainly a practical based one, although you will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence including assignments and written evidence from activities carried out on site. To achieve the Diploma and Functional Skills it will be necessary for you to pass final exams.
